A trader in Onitsha has cried out after her shop, which she reportedly opened less than four months ago, was demolished overnight at the popular Main Market.
According to accounts circulating online, the demolition allegedly took place around midnight, leaving the woman’s shop completely destroyed along with the goods inside.
Sources claimed that officials said to have been acting on government directives carried out the operation. However, it remains unclear whether the demolition formed part of an officially sanctioned exercise or enforcement action.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been officially disclosed, was said to have invested heavily in setting up the business, making the sudden destruction particularly devastating. Witnesses described the scene as emotional, with nearby traders expressing shock at the timing of the operation.
The development has sparked debate among residents and traders in the commercial city, with many calling for clarity on the circumstances surrounding the demolition and whether proper notice was given to affected shop owners.
As of the time of reporting, neither the Anambra State Government nor the office of Chukwuma Soludo has issued an official statement addressing the incident.
