The Super Falconets of Nigeria will play at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after beating Malawi 3-2 on aggregate in a nervy qualifier decided in Lilongwe.
The Falconets travelled with a two-goal advantage earned in Ikenne, where an own goal from Maureen Kenneth and a finish by Kindness Ifeanyi handed the hosts early control of the tie. That cushion ultimately proved decisive as Malawi mounted a fierce response in front of a packed crowd.
Malawi struck early at the Bingu National Stadium when Faith Chimzimu fired home inside nine minutes to ignite belief. Nigeria nearly restored calm before the interval when Ifeanyi’s cross found Favour Nkwocha, whose effort crashed against the woodwork. The hosts held their 1-0 lead at the break, leaving the tie delicately poised.
The pressure intensified 10 minutes after the restart as Chimzimu struck again to level the aggregate score and threaten Nigeria’s flawless qualification record. Coach Moses Aduku reacted by turning to his bench, and the decision proved decisive. Substitute Precious Oscar pounced on defensive hesitation in the 62nd minute, winning possession and finishing coolly to silence the home support and restore Nigeria’s advantage.
Nigeria managed the closing stages with discipline to secure qualification and extend their record of reaching every edition of the tournament since its inception in 2002.
The Falconets have finished as runners-up twice and will now chase a first title when the competition begins in Poland from 5 to 27 September, 2026.
