A Nigerian businesswoman has criticised some Yoruba people who have vowed not to vote for Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election because he is Igbo, urging Nigerians to prioritise national development over ethnic considerations.
In a video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the woman questioned why some Nigerians were more concerned about the alleged dominance of Igbos in Lagos and other parts of the country rather than addressing the challenges confronting citizens.
She expressed frustration over the country’s unstable electricity supply, noting that residents continued to experience frequent power outages despite being placed on Band A, a category expected to provide a higher number of electricity supply hours.
The businesswoman also faulted those advising Nigerians to invest in solar energy, arguing that purchasing and installing solar panels remained expensive for many households and business owners.
“We’ve not had constant and stable power supply for the past six weeks, and we say we’re under Band A. What exactly is the use of Band A? We are not even asking for too much from this present administration; we just want the barest minimum.
“Do you realise that countries fighting active wars have stable electricity? Fuel expenses are killing me. I buy fuel above ₦100,000 every day for my shop and car,” she said.
She further questioned the government’s spending priorities, making reference to reports about the purchase of 2026 Prado SUVs for youth leaders.
According to her, resources should instead be channelled towards improving the country’s electricity transmission infrastructure and addressing other critical challenges affecting businesses and ordinary Nigerians.
Her comments have generated discussions on social media, particularly around ethnic politics, Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential ambition, electricity supply and the rising cost of operating businesses in Nigeria.
