Popular Nigerian rapper, Tochukwu Ojogwu, better known by his stage name Odumodublvck, has shed light on the cultural significance of the iconic red cap he often wears a fashion piece that has become synonymous with his identity.
Speaking during a recent appearance on the Comfortably Speaking podcast, the rapper revealed that the red cap is not merely a stylistic choice but a powerful symbol of heritage, strength, and defiance rooted deeply in Igbo tradition.
Odumodublvck explained that in Igbo culture, the red cap (commonly referred to as Okpu Ododo) is traditionally worn by titled men and warriors, signifying authority, courage, and respect within the community. However, for him, the cap carries an additional layer of meaning a representation of his ongoing battle within the Nigerian music industry.
In his words:
“This is a war cap. Whenever my tribe wants to go to war against another clan, all the warriors wear this. So, if I enter the music industry, which is a battleground, put two and two together.”
The DECLAN RICE crooner emphasized that the entertainment space is filled with intense competition and power struggles, likening it to a “war zone” where artists must constantly prove themselves. For him, wearing the red cap is a form of spiritual and cultural armor a reminder of his roots and a declaration of his readiness to fight for his place.
Odumodublvck, who is known for blending street energy with cultural consciousness in his music, has often highlighted his pride in his Igbo heritage. His choice of fashion, lyrical themes, and stage performances frequently pay homage to the traditions and values of his people.
The rapper’s statement has since sparked conversations online, with many fans commending him for promoting African identity and symbolism in contemporary music, while others praised his creativity in connecting ancestral pride with modern artistry.
Through his art and style, Odumodublvck continues to blur the lines between culture and hip-hop, proving that authenticity can be both a weapon and a statement in the ever-evolving Nigerian music scene.
