Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has welcomed a Federal High Court judgment ordering Governor Hope Uzodimma to stop parading himself as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District.
The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish Okorocha’s name as the party’s authentic candidate for the senatorial district.
Reacting to the ruling on Thursday, Okorocha declared that justice had finally prevailed, while commending the judiciary for what he described as its commitment to justice.
He compared the dispute over the Imo West senatorial ticket to an alleged electoral irregularity in which, according to him, one person wrote more than 300 results, allowing a candidate who finished fourth to emerge in first place.
“Justice has finally prevailed. This was the same thing that happened when one person wrote more than 300 results, causing someone who came fourth to become number one,” Okorocha said.
The former governor also expressed confidence that the ruling reflected growing intolerance for impunity, claiming that the Presidency was tired of such practices.
“I appreciate the Nigerian judiciary, and it is evident that the Presidency is tired of this nonsense,” he added.
Okorocha subsequently urged his supporters in Imo West to remain calm and celebrate what he described as a victory.
The ruling marks a significant development in the dispute over the APC’s senatorial candidacy in Imo West. Further details, including any possible appeal against the judgment, were not provided in the account of the ruling.
