A community in Enugu State has reportedly banished a man and his daughter following allegations that the father had sexual relations with her, an act considered an abomination under the community’s traditions.
The incident reportedly occurred in Nenwe Community, Enugu State, where a video circulating on social media shows residents parading the pair before leading them out of the community.
In the footage, the man and his daughter are seen with palm fronds placed around their necks as a form of public humiliation.
The daughter, who carried a backpack, appeared to wipe tears from her eyes as community members escorted them away.
An elderly man, addressing the pair in the video, was heard saying: “We’re banishing you today, not because it brings us joy, but because what you’ve done is an abomination.”
The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many expressing concern over the daughter’s treatment and arguing that she may be a victim of sexual abuse rather than someone who should be punished alongside the accused man.
Others have focused on the community’s traditional response to the alleged act.
