Police authorities in Delta State have launched an investigation into claims that officers allegedly chased a student to his death in Ogwashi-Uku.
The incident was brought to public attention by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared details of the tragedy on social media.
According to Gwamnishu, the student was allegedly being pursued by police officers alongside a local hunter through a dangerous area in Ogwashi-Uku when the incident occurred.
He claimed that during the chase, the student reportedly failed to notice an uncovered well filled with water and accidentally fell inside.
The hunter said to be participating in the chase also allegedly fell into the same well.
Both victims reportedly died before rescue efforts could save them.
The development has sparked reactions online, with many social media users demanding accountability and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, the Police Complaint Unit confirmed that an investigation into the allegations has commenced.
