The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Onoja Samuel, for allegedly firing shots into the air during a confrontation with traders at Kubwa Market, Abuja.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, following a distress call to the Kubwa Police Division over sporadic gunshots at the market.
The FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the NSCDC, allegedly went to the market armed with a pistol after receiving reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.
The situation reportedly escalated into an argument between the officer and the traders, during which he allegedly fired several shots into the air.
Police operatives attached to the Kubwa Division were subsequently deployed to the scene, where they disarmed and arrested the suspect.
The police said a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from him during the arrest.
The statement added that the suspect remained in police custody and would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged personnel of sister security agencies to exercise restraint and notify the police divisions responsible for their operational areas before conducting authorised operations within the territory.
He said the measure would promote effective coordination among security agencies and prevent avoidable clashes.
