A Fulani herdsman has reportedly been arrested in Delta State following an alleged cutlass attack on a farmer who confronted him over cattle destroying crops on his farm.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the farmer challenged the herdsman over the destruction of his crops by the cattle, leading to an alleged violent confrontation.
The arrest has since sparked reactions on social media, with several Nigerians expressing concerns about the safety of farmers and demanding justice for the victim.
Reacting to the development, one social media user expressed doubts about whether the suspect would remain in custody, writing, “He’s probably released already as we are talking.”
Another commenter questioned why the suspect was not killed, stating, “And they kept him alive? Such people have to be sent to God for judgement.”
A third user expressed concerns about the possibility of a repeat incident, writing, “Look at his face. He’ll do it again.”
Another commenter also suggested that the suspect might eventually be released quietly, saying, “Person way them go release for station lowkey.”
The incident has once again drawn attention to the recurring tensions between farmers and herders, particularly concerns over the destruction of farmlands, alleged attacks and the need for proper law enforcement.
