Authorities in Rwanda have issued a safety warning to a Nigerian content creator after he filmed himself sitting and eating on a public roadway to showcase what he described as the country’s remarkable cleanliness.
The creator, Joe Bassey, shared a video of the act on social media while visiting the country. In the footage, he is seen seated directly on the road and eating food placed on the ground, expressing amazement at how tidy and well-maintained the streets appeared. He went on to praise Rwanda as having “the cleanest roads in the world.”
Responding via its official handle on X on Saturday, February 21, the police acknowledged that the video was intended to highlight a positive aspect of the country but stressed that such behaviour is not permitted.
The statement noted that creating content in the middle of a roadway is dangerous and contravenes traffic safety regulations, as it exposes both the individual and other road users to unnecessary risk.
Officials reiterated that while Rwanda welcomes visitors and appreciates positive publicity, public safety rules must be respected at all times, especially on active roads.
The incident has since sparked online discussions, with some viewers applauding Rwanda’s reputation for environmental cleanliness, while others emphasized the importance of observing local laws and safety guidelines when producing travel content abroad.
