A young girl hawking in a market in Aba, Abia State, has attracted attention online after informing her regular customers that she would soon stop selling in the market because she was returning to school.
In a video circulating on social media, the girl is seen moving around the market and speaking to customers who regularly patronise her.
She explained that school would soon resume and, as a result, she would no longer be available to continue her daily sales.
Rather than simply leaving, the young girl told her customers that her mother would take over from her and appealed to them to continue patronising her mother whenever they visited the market.
Her approach has generated reactions from Nigerians online, with many praising her for thinking about her mother’s business and customers even as she prepares to return to school.
One social media user wrote:
“She no be beggar, her mama no beg, she only came to handover sales and recognition to her mum so people keep patronising them in her absence as she continues school. God bless the Igbos and every lover of the Igbos.”
Another commenter praised the girl’s understanding of customer relationships, writing:
“This girl no just dey sell, she dey build customer relationship. School dey resume and she still dey think of how her mum go continue. Real one.”
The young girl’s actions also prompted some people to ask for her mother’s bank account details so they could offer financial assistance towards the girl’s education.
One user said:
“If you later get her mother account details post am, make we support for School fees.”
The incident has sparked conversations online about the importance of education, family support and the entrepreneurial skills children can develop through helping their parents with legitimate businesses.
While the girl’s decision to return to school has drawn praise, her effort to introduce her mother to existing customers has also been described by some commenters as a practical example of customer retention and business continuity.
