The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused Sunday Asefon, an aide to President Bola Tinubu, and his in-law of being directly involved in an alleged attack against him in Ekiti State.
Sowore made the allegation in a statement shared on his verified X account on Monday while recounting his experience during an encounter with suspected political thugs in the state.
The human rights activist alleged that the attack was politically motivated and sponsored by individuals close to the Presidency.
According to him, the suspected attackers were mobilised by Tinubu’s aide and his in-law in an attempt to silence him over his persistent criticism of the Federal Government.
“It was not just a random attack, Tinubu’s aide and in-law were involved in my attack in Ekiti,” Sowore alleged.
He described the incident as an attempt to intimidate him and discourage him from speaking out against what he considers bad governance in Nigeria.
Despite the alleged attack, the AAC chieftain vowed that he would not abandon his advocacy for justice, accountability and good governance.
Sowore also called on the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant security agencies to launch an immediate investigation into the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
However, as of the time of filing this report, Sunday Asefon had not publicly responded to the allegation.
