Suspected Car Thief Crashes Stolen Tundra Into Canal After Allegedly Hitting People, Vehicles [Videos]

A suspected car thief has been arrested after allegedly stealing a Toyota Tundra truck from a dealership on Lagos Island and causing destruction while attempting to escape.

According to reports circulating online, the suspect visited the car dealership and requested a test drive of the truck, pretending to be a prospective buyer.

However, shortly after getting behind the wheel, he allegedly sped off without waiting for a dealership representative to accompany him.

The suspect was reportedly pursued by people who noticed the incident, but he continued driving at high speed in an attempt to evade capture.

During the chase, he allegedly rammed into pedestrians and other vehicles, causing damage to cars and properties along his route.

Some unconfirmed reports claimed that people were killed during the incident. However, the reported fatalities have not been independently verified.

The suspect was also alleged to have rammed the stolen truck into the entrance gate of Victoria Garden City (VGC), a residential estate in Lagos.

In one of the videos circulating online, a man claimed that the suspect nearly hit him, prompting him to join the pursuit.

The chase reportedly ended when the truck crashed into a canal.

Residents and other people at the scene were seen confronting the suspect as he attempted to climb out of the dirty water. He was reportedly beaten before being handed over to the police.

Further details about the incident, including the number of people injured or killed, the extent of the property damage and the suspect’s identity, were not immediately available.
