United States Congressman Riley Moore has defended President Donald Trump’s decision to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), describing the move as the right step amid continued reports of violence against Christians.
Moore also raised concerns over what he described as the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria and other parts of the world, calling for renewed international efforts to protect religious communities facing attacks.
In a statement posted on his verified X account, the American lawmaker reflected on the anniversary of Trump’s decision to place Nigeria on the CPC list.
He maintained that the designation was justified, insisting that Christians in Nigeria and elsewhere continued to experience severe violence.
“One year ago, President Trump made the right decision to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.
“Christians in Nigeria, and around the world, continue to face unspeakable violence.
“On this anniversary, we must rededicate our efforts to defend Christians in Nigeria and anywhere they face persecution,” Moore said.
The congressman further called on the international community and the Nigerian government to take decisive measures to protect Christians and address religious persecution.
His remarks have brought renewed attention to religious freedom and the security challenges facing Christian communities in Nigeria, as well as international concerns over the protection of religious minorities.
