A Nigerian woman living in the United Kingdom has appealed for help after claiming that her husband withdrew her immigration sponsorship, leaving her with 60 days to find an alternative sponsor or risk having to leave the country.
In a video circulating on social media, the distressed woman said she received a notification from the UK Home Office informing her of the deadline.
She explained that the development had left her worried about her future, prompting her to appeal to Nigerians and other well-meaning individuals to help her secure a new Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).
According to the woman, her husband had repeatedly threatened to withdraw his sponsorship before eventually carrying out the action.
“The person I called my husband had been threatening me that he would remove me from his CoS, and he has finally done it,” she said.
She added that the message from the Home Office gave her 60 days to find another sponsor or leave the UK.
Expressing her distress, the woman said she never expected her circumstances to deteriorate to that extent.
“At this point, I feel like my life is gradually falling apart because I never expected something like this to happen to me,” she said.
Appealing for assistance, she urged anyone who could connect her with a potential sponsor to come to her aid, adding that she was willing to relocate if necessary.
“I only have 60 days. Otherwise, I will have to return to Nigeria, and I don’t want to go back to Nigeria. Please help me,” she added.
Social Media User Shares Different Account of Marriage Breakdown
Meanwhile, the individual who shared the video online offered a different account of the events that allegedly led to the withdrawal of the woman’s sponsorship.
According to the social media post, the woman arrived in the UK about two years ago and allegedly received advice from friends who suggested that divorcing her husband could make her eligible for government support while allowing her to remain in the country.
The individual further claimed that the woman subsequently informed her husband that she no longer wished to continue the marriage and asked him to prepare for a divorce.
According to the account, the husband agreed to the separation and subsequently withdrew her sponsorship.
The social media user claimed that the woman was now seeking assistance to secure alternative immigration sponsorship before the reported deadline expired.
However, the claims about the circumstances surrounding the marital breakdown have not been independently verified, and the woman’s account and the allegations made by the person who shared the video have not been fully reconciled.
The precise implications of the reported Home Office notification also remain unclear. Immigration options and deadlines depend on the individual’s visa category and circumstances, and the withdrawal of a partner’s sponsorship does not necessarily mean that every available route to remain in the UK has been exhausted.
