The senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Victor Umeh, has declared that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo cannot match the popularity of Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, in Anambra State and across Nigeria.
Umeh made the remarks on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while reacting to Soludo’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The lawmaker argued that the governor’s endorsement of Tinubu would not prevent Anambra voters from supporting Obi in the forthcoming presidential election.
Umeh cited the 2023 general election as evidence of Obi’s political influence in the South-East, recalling his strong performance in Anambra State against candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He expressed the view that the 2027 election could see a similar voting pattern in the region, describing Obi as a highly popular political figure in Anambra.
“Today, no matter what Soludo does, Peter Obi will continue to be more popular than him, both in Nigeria and in Anambra State,” Umeh said.
The comments come amid growing political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with endorsements and party affiliations emerging as major talking points among political stakeholders.
