Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of former Nasir El-Rufai, has reacted strongly to the continued detention of his father by the Department of State Services (DSS), declaring that his family is not afraid despite growing concerns surrounding the case.
Speaking shortly after the former governor was granted bail by a court, the Kaduna lawmaker maintained that his father remains healthy and has complied with the legal process, insisting there was no reason for fear or panic within the family.
“I don’t fear. Unlike other people, I am not really fearful of anything,” Mohammed said.
“Mallam has his bail condition set, he’s in good health, so I don’t know what this whole fear thing is about,” he added.
The lawmaker also issued a direct warning to the DSS, challenging any suggestion that harm could come to his father while in the custody of the security agency.
“And whoever thinks something would happen to Mallam wrongly, we dare them,” he stated.
Mohammed further emphasised his confidence and defiance, insisting that the El-Rufai family would not be intimidated by the situation.
“So, there is no fear. I am an El-Rufai, there are no fears, okay. Let justice prevail, there are no fears,” he said.
He also pointed out that the DSS should bear responsibility for the safety of the former governor since he was taken into their custody publicly.
“We saw him enter DSS, so if anything happens to him there, they should fear,” he added.
The Kaduna lawmaker concluded his remarks with a broader comment on the country’s political climate, saying, “The country has changed and that’s my opinion.”
His comments come amid ongoing public debate surrounding the continued detention of Nasir El-Rufai despite reports that he had met the bail conditions imposed by the court.
Questions have also continued to emerge over the legal process, the former governor’s health condition, and the role of security agencies in high-profile political cases.
