Portable Questions VeryDarkMan Over Burna Boy’s ₦200m School Donation, Asks ‘Where The Money Dey?’

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has questioned social media activist VeryDarkMan over Burna Boy’s reported donation of more than ₦200 million for a school project, demanding to know how the money was spent.

Portable raised the questions in a video circulating on social media, criticising the activist over the paintings and murals displayed on the school walls.

The singer questioned why VeryDarkMan painted his own portrait and featured footballer Emmanuel Adebayor instead of Burna Boy, whom he identified as the person who provided the funds for the project.

“Burna Boy give you money, wetin you use am do? NGO money, where the money dey?” Portable asked.

He also challenged the activist over the decision to feature himself in the artwork, arguing that the project was funded by another person.

Portable further alleged that Burna Boy had given VeryDarkMan more than ₦200 million to build a school, questioning whether the money had been used for its intended purpose.

“You are fighting for your pocket. Burna Boy give you N200 million plus, make you build school, you go build Ashewo house,” the singer said.

Background To The Controversy

The comments come amid public debate over a school and clinic project reportedly funded by Burna Boy in Odiokwu community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Reports indicate that the project cost more than ₦250 million and was supervised by VeryDarkMan, with Fego Works Limited handling the construction.

The activist also disclosed that ₦50 million was spent on murals and graffiti featuring Burna Boy, children and members of the project team, including himself. The expenditure has attracted criticism from some social media users, who have questioned whether the amount was justified. <Cite refs={[“turn491749search1″,”turn491749search2″,”turn491749search4”]}/>

VeryDarkMan, however, defended the artwork, describing the money spent on it as worthwhile.

The controversy has generated mixed reactions online, with some people praising Burna Boy for funding the community project, while others have called for greater transparency regarding the expenditure.

Portable’s latest comments have added to the debate surrounding the project and the reported cost of the artwork.
