Operatives of the Department of State Services have arrested a suspected commander of the Eastern Security Network, Sabastine Odo Odam, alongside Ejike Daniel, a suspected member of the Indigenous People of Biafra, in Enugu State.
Security sources who spoke with Vanguard, said the suspects were apprehended on Friday during coordinated operations in Eha-Amufu and Umuhu communities in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.
According to the sources, the arrests followed months of intelligence gathering on the activities of the suspects, who were allegedly linked to several violent attacks in the area.
The operations were carried out amid ongoing security concerns in the South-East, including attacks on police formations and killings recorded between 2024 and 2026.
A security source said the suspects had admitted involvement in multiple attacks on security facilities and other violent crimes.
“Both men have confessed to being masterminds of a chain of attacks on police stations and carting away weapons,” the source said.
The suspects were also linked to the killing of several individuals during the attacks.
“These include the killing of 11 labourers in February 2026, two policemen in January 2026, two policemen in December 2025 and one policeman in 2024, among others,” the source added.
The source described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in ongoing security operations in the region.
“The arrests represent a major success for the DSS in the fight against insecurity in the South-East and the country at large,” the source said.
Residents of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area reportedly expressed relief following news of the arrests.
Many community members said the development could help restore peace to communities that have been affected by recurring attacks.
Security sources who spoke with Vanguard said the suspects are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services and will be arraigned in court after investigations are concluded.
