Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has publicly described himself as an Islamist and a jihadist.
Dokubo made the remark while speaking about his religious beliefs, saying the name he now uses reflects his faith and personal convictions.
In a viral video, he said: “I’m a jihadist. My name is Mujahed, he who carries out jihad; that is what it means in Arabic.”
The former militant leader said the name represents an identity he adopted deliberately.
“That is the name I adopted,” he said.
Dokubo also emphasised his commitment to Islam, saying he practises the religion without apology or fear.
“Listen to me very well, I’m an Islamist. I’m a Muslim without apology and fear,” he added.
The ex-militant leader recently issued a strong warning to Donald Trump and the American military, declaring that Nigeria would become their “graveyard” if any military strike is carried out against the country.
Speaking during a live broadcast on Facebook, Dokubo warned that U.S. soldiers would face deadly resistance if they attempt to invade Nigeria in line with Trump’s threat.
The former warlord described the United States as “a country filled with insane people,” saying it was not surprising that such a country produced Trump as president.
Dokubo also rejected claims that the alleged killings in Nigeria were directed only at Christians, insisting that “Muslims are also being massacred.”
He said: “Let Trump come with his America, they will all die. This lunatic wants to annex Canada, he wants Iceland, wants to kill the president of Venezuela, he wants to kill the Supreme Leader of Iran.”
“And that is why when they talk of America, I say it’s a sick country, a country of mad people, insane people, and that is why they can elect a lunatic as their president,” he said.
