Arise News anchor, Rufai Oseni, has criticised President Bola Tinubu, African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi over their alleged failure to present clear manifestos ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oseni expressed his displeasure in a video shared on X, accusing the leading political figures of prioritising political manoeuvres over explaining their plans and policy proposals to Nigerians.
According to the journalist, it is shameful that the presidential contenders have yet to present comprehensive manifestos to the electorate, despite the approaching elections.
He challenged the politicians to explain what they intend to do for Nigerians if elected president.
“Shame on you all. Shame on Tinubu, shame on Atiku, shame on Peter Obi. Up till now, no manifesto. What do you want to do for Nigerians? You have not told us,” Oseni said.
The Arise News presenter argued that in established democracies, presidential candidates make their manifestos available months before elections to allow citizens to examine, debate and question their proposed policies.
He, however, accused Nigerian politicians of concentrating more on endorsements, political defections and other political activities than presenting concrete plans for addressing the country’s challenges.
Oseni’s comments have generated reactions on social media, with some Nigerians agreeing that presidential candidates should make their policy positions known early enough for voters to assess them.
However, some supporters of the politicians argued that it was still too early for the candidates to release their manifestos.
