A Nigerian nurse and former lawyer based abroad, Ezinne Ebebe, has sparked reactions on social media after making controversial claims about men who return to Africa to find wives and take them overseas.
According to Ebebe, some men who travel back to Africa in search of wives do so primarily with the intention of bringing them abroad to study nursing and eventually contribute financially to the household.
She claimed that such men are often uneducated or unemployed, arguing that they seek partners who can later become major financial providers.
Ebebe further alleged that educated professionals, including doctors, nurses and X-ray technicians, are less likely to travel to Africa specifically to search for spouses.
According to her, many professionals prefer to choose partners from within their social and professional circles in the countries where they live.
She added that an exception could be a man returning to Africa to marry someone with whom he had already been in a long-term relationship.
Her comments have since generated debate, with social media users expressing different opinions about her generalisation and views on relationships, marriage and migration.
