Tension As Four-storey School Building Collapses In Lagos

Students and teachers narrowly escaped death after a four-storey school building collapsed in the Aguda area of Ogba in Lagos on Monday, March 9.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not confirmed whether the incident resulted in any casualties.

According to eyewitness accounts, the building came crashing down only a few minutes after students and staff were hurriedly evacuated from the premises. Residents in the area said the structure collapsed roughly three minutes after the evacuation, which many believe helped prevent what could have been a major tragedy.

Sources in the neighbourhood revealed that the building had reportedly shown signs of structural defects before the incident occurred, raising concerns about its safety prior to the collapse.

Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, quickly arrived at the scene to secure the area and assess the situation. Other emergency and safety agencies were also deployed to assist in ongoing checks around the site.

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and whether any building regulations were violated.

The incident has once again raised concerns about building safety and structural integrity in parts of Lagos, where cases of building collapse have been reported in the past.
