Bashir Ahmad Calls for Action Against Pastor Over Viral AK-47 Video in Plateau [Watch]

Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has called on security agencies to investigate a viral video showing a Nigerian pastor allegedly urging youths in Plateau State to arm themselves with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons for self-defence.

The cleric, identified as Pastor Jemimah David, was seen in the footage addressing her followers and encouraging young people to fight back whenever they come under attack.

Her remarks have generated concerns on social media, with some Nigerians warning that such statements could escalate tensions and encourage violence in the already troubled state.

Reacting to the video in a post on his official X handle, Ahmad described the development as disturbing and called for appropriate intervention by security authorities.

The former presidential aide recalled the widespread condemnation that followed another viral video involving a young Muslim who was accused of singing an inciting song.

He noted that Nigerians from different religious backgrounds had condemned the incident and demanded appropriate action.

Ahmad questioned the apparent lack of consideration for the consequences of inflammatory statements by religious leaders, stressing the need for security agencies to take the latest video seriously.

“I sincerely hope the relevant security agencies will take note of this video and take appropriate action in accordance with the law,” he wrote.

The controversy comes amid persistent security challenges in parts of Plateau State and other regions of Nigeria, where attacks by armed groups have continued to raise concerns over the safety of residents.

The worsening security situation has also prompted debates over the right to self-defence, with some religious leaders urging their followers to protect themselves against attacks by criminal elements.
