Shettima Attacks Peter Obi, Says NDC Candidate Has Lost Nigerians' Goodwill Over 'Lies, Bogus Statistics'

Vice President Kashim Shettima has criticised the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, claiming that the former Anambra State governor has lost the goodwill of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Shettima accused Obi of relying on what he described as lies and bogus statistics, insisting that the opposition politician had weakened his chances of securing the presidency.

The Vice President made the remarks on Friday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during the presidential campaign rally of President Bola Tinubu.

While addressing supporters, Shettima also claimed that Obi had secretly travelled out of Nigeria to rest before returning to the country.

He suggested that although the former Labour Party presidential candidate might have avoided Lagos and Abuja upon his return, his political standing had already suffered significant damage.

According to Shettima, Obi had gradually lost the goodwill that previously made him attractive to many Nigerians, particularly his supporters.

“Let’s talk about the politics of the ADC and NDC. I hereby say that Peter Obi is back in the country after sneaking out to have a rest; he might have avoided Lagos and Abuja on arrival, but clearly this gentleman has run himself out of the race with his lies and bogus statistics,” Shettima said.

The Vice President added that Obi had been warned about the political consequences of his approach, arguing that the opposition figure no longer generated the excitement he once enjoyed among Nigerians.

“We warned him that it would get to this; Peter Obi has clearly given away his goodwill and no longer excites when he only raises suspicions; too bad for him,” he added.

Shettima’s remarks represent another political attack on Obi as political activities and exchanges intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
